You know, every time I head out for a shoot, I am very thankful that this is what I do! It is such an incredible opportunity and blessing to be a special part of someone’s happy memories.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to partake of a happy union between two lovely young people. I hadn’t met them prior to the shoot but I did have a chance to visit with the bride-to-be’s family to get the details of the shoot out of the way.

It was the last weekend of September and these two had flown out from Ontario to spend a quick weekend getaway in Calgary to visit family. Oh and to get some photos done for their upcoming wedding!

That’s where I jump in and take the lovely couple around a brief jaunt through the photogenic areas in Calgary. We had such a brilliant time and enjoyed each others’ company.

Dear, N & V, I want to thank you very much for this opportunity to be your photographer.

With warmest regards!

I started my Labour Day Weekend with an outdoor family portrait shoot. It was of Laurie, two of her children and her dog, Maggie. It was an early start at the off-leash park just south of John Laurie Blvd. and 19th street here in Calgary and the weather was nice and cool.

By the time I arrived, Laurie was waiting with her son and Maggie. I was informed that Maggie came a bit earlier so that she would be a little less excited by the time I came. Soon after, Laurie’s daughter arrived and we began the shoot.

The park was nice and there were several other dog walkers around! It was such a lovely little park for an outdoor family portrait shoot. Here are a few photos for your enjoyment!

p.s. Maggie decided that she was going to be the star of the day. And what a pampered little cutie she was too!

Last month, I was invited to a bachelorette party where I had a great, great time! Now that I’ve had some time to sit back and work on the photos, I thought I would do something more special and create a video.

My first foray into slide show video using still images was good but there were a lot of things that I could have done better. Now I am pleased to introduce this video for your viewing pleasure.

Creating a moving version of still images takes more energy than I thought! It was a taxing effort but ultimately well worth the time. If you are looking for great ideas for your still photos, please consider turning them into memorable DVD slide shows that you can share with friends and family.

The video is 4:13 long. If you have a few spare minutes, please sit back and enjoy!

p.s. Don’t forget to turn on your speakers!

My friends Morgan and Norah were getting married on August 1st, 2009 and they wanted me to share in their blessed day with them. A couple of months prior, I had taken some engagement photos of the both of them. You can see those photos in an earlier entry titled, “The Climbers.”

For the wedding, I was attending as a second photographer. The other photographer was Oliver from Perfect Pear Photo. The wedding was held in Regina which meant that I would have to get myself down there for the event. Since Oliver was heading down there, I was able to catch a ride with him from Calgary.

We arrived on Friday night and relaxed in downtown Regina in preparation for the wedding day on Saturday.

Saturday morning, I went with Norah and her sisters to the makeup artist and then to the hair salon. It was an early start but every one was in a happy and chipper mood! After the hair salon, I went with Norah to her parents’ house, took some photos and then departed for the church to await their arrival.

The wedding ceremony finished by noon and we made it to Wascana Place for the wedding reception by 12:30. It was a wonderful reception with great food and some sweet caramel apples!

Thanks Norah and Morgan for having such a wonderful wedding. It was my pleasure to be part of your special day!

To date, July has been quite a busy time with all the weddings and events that have been going on. To be sure, it is a pleasant and sunny month to hold these blessed and festive events. This time, I was invited to witness and record, by way of photography, a Muslim wedding. It was an 8am start at the bride’s house and I began by capturing the meticulous art of the hair dresser.

Soon after, the make up artist came and I enjoyed the whole process very much. Indeed, I derive much pleasure from being a photographer when such exciting things are happening. We left the bride’s house at 11am and proceeded to the reception venue where we awaited the groom.

He strolled in as majestically as the bride had and the event began. Marvelous! For the next five hours, I was given the task of capturing photos and memories of the day with the bride and groom. After that, we went around town for some select portraits of the bride and groom around Calgary.

It was a long day but it was absolutely fabulous!

Last week, I was invited to be a photographer for a bachelorette party. I had never been to one before and I thought it would be an awesome opportunity to work with some enthusiastic young ladies. Indeed, it was quite the pleasure as there were plenty of good times to be had.

We started the evening off with a BBQ at the bride’s house. The event started early in the evening and guests trickled in over the course of the evening. There were plenty of snacks and drinks to keep the conversation going. After a nice BBQ, everybody gathered around to play trivia game. It was up to the bride to sucessfully answer questions about her husband-to-be.

Any questions that she missed meant that she would have to eat a piece of Hubba Bubba gum. I think, by the end of the questions, she had a huge wad of gum in her mouth!

Finally we ended the evening by renting a limo, and stuffing it with 17 young ladies and me, the photographer. It was a tight fit but these are the things that I do to keep my clients happy! We stopped off at Crescent Heights for some group photos and then off to the bar we went. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to take my cameras into the club but I did manage to find a point-and-shoot to take pictures of the remainder of the evening.

It was an absolute blast and here are some photos for your enjoyment.

Ian and Grace were the lovely young family that asked me to take a few portrait photos for them. Grace had contacted me a few weeks prior to set up a date. I was happy to oblige! We met at their place and decided to shoot on July 1st at a nearby park.

Both Grace and Ian wanted to create memories of their young children and possibly get some photos of their lovely little dog, Daisy.

Edworthy Park was the venue of choice and we went to the off-leash area for Daisy to run around in. She loved every minute of our shoot and by the end was knackered out!

While Daisy was out and about, I managed to get several great photos of this lovely, young family. Please enjoy!

It was in Edworthy Park that Su Jin and her partner, Radu agreed to the shoot. We started out early in the morning with some fresh air and their exuberant dog, Bonnie. Though we spent a brief amount of time at the park, we managed to create some very wonderful photos together. Overall, it was a fun and playful shoot!

I knew it was going to be a fun shoot when Morgan called me to let me know that Norah loved my photos and wanted to do a shoot. These two are the outdoorsy type and they wanted their photos to reflect their casual nature and they asked what I could do. I showed them a few types of shots I had done and they decided that they wanted to share the majesty of the Rockies for their shoot.

We decided that Kananaskis Country would be the perfect backdrop for their shoot. Morgan and Norah are both climbers and they wanted me to come up with something that involved something other than “bum shots”. We drove to K-Country and found a nice location that provided a great environment.

It was the first time that I had done any sort of climbing and I was a bit nervous. But once me and the camera were safely perched up on high, it was good times! These are a few shots of this delightful couple! Please enjoy.
