The winner of this package was a friend of mine, Jasen!

Jasen is a talented very photographer himself and has a very wonderful family. One of the issues of being the photographer in the family is that most of family shots don’t involve you. So it was with great pleasure to be a photographer for him and his photogenic family.

We spent a couple of hours in Inglewood walking with Jasen, his wife and his adorable children. We had a great time and got some lovely images.

This young couple’s Sangeet and Mehndi event was two days prior to the big day.

As with all Indian weddings, there is a lot of color, food and fond memories and I did my best to capture it all. It was a wonderful day beginning at 7am and ending at midnight. Laughter, tears, song and dance…!

It was a great success and I loved being part of such a wonderful group of people! It just feels right to donate and share my time and efforts helping others and it is a bit addictive.

Supporting The Kidney Foundation

My wife recently decided to participate in the Kidney Foundation’s Kidney March. She is a nurse at the Foothills hospital and she works with kidney patients on a daily basis. So she knows the impact kidney disease has on people.

On Sunday, I mentioned that my wife is doing the Kidney March in
support of the Kidney Foundation. My wife is a nurse at the

Yesterday, I posted a short video about the Calgary Stampede Fireworks and today I’d like to share with you a few photos that I took while at the Stampede.

I usually try to make it out to the Stampede at least every 2-3 years. This year was a special time because it was my wife’s first time at the Stampede. That also meant first time eating Those Mini Donuts, visiting the Big 4 Building and so on.

Oh and the cotton candy and the “Bucket o’ Fries” too :)

Going to the Stampede is a great time. We went early in the morning, wandered about for a bit and played a few games.

My wife tried her luck throwing darts at balloons, tossing baseballs in buckets, picking up bottles and a couple more. She did end up winning 3 stuffed animals!

The last time I had seen the fireworks at the Stampede was in 1999 :) Now that was a long time ago!

So it was a fun trip down memory lane to see the fireworks again. Here is a short video for you to enjoy. If you listen carefully, you can hear my new Nikon D700′s shutter clicking away in the background.

One of the events preceding the actual wedding ceremony is what is known as the “sangeet” ceremony where both families come together informally to rejoice and make merry prior to the wedding.

Sangeet – Hindi word meaning “music”

Mehndi – Temporary body art applied on the skin by an artist; the dye is made from henna which is made from the dried leaf and petiole of Lawsonia alba

I was privileged to be the photographer for the sangeet and mehndi evening for this lovely young couple that I met last year.

This initiative was originally started by the University of Waterloo in 1995 to promote and create activities and materials in mathematics and computer science. Today, 15 years later, it is Canada’s largest and most recognized outreach organization for these activities.

I was invited by the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary to take some photos of these young students.
